Grok AI’s current iteration, Grok-1, represents a significant advancement from its prototype predecessor, Grok-0. A real-world test of Grok-1’s capabilities was conducted during the 2023 Hungarian national high school finals in mathematics, a rigorous assessment for which Grok-1 had no specific preparation. This examination provided a genuine evaluation of its mathematical understanding, with Grok-1 achieving a respectable ‘C’ (59%) grade, matching the performance of Claude-2 and coming close to GPT-4’s 68%.

The benchmark comparison showcases the performance of various AI models across different tasks. Grok-1 demonstrates notable improvements over its predecessor, Grok-0 (33B), and competes well with other leading models. In the GSM8k benchmark, Grok-1 achieved a score of 62.9%, surpassing Grok-0 and GPT-3.5 while closely matching Inflection-1. For the  MMLU task, Grok-1 scored 73.0%, outperforming GPT-3.5 and Inflection-1, and approaching the scores of Palm 2 and Claude 2. In the HumanEval task, Grok-1 significantly excelled with a score of 63.2%, ranking just below Claude 2 but ahead of GPT-4. Lastly, in the MATH benchmark, Grok-1 achieved 23.9%, demonstrating a substantial improvement over Grok-0 and comparable to GPT-3.5, though it still trails behind the higher scores of Palm  2 and GPT-4. Overall, Grok-1 showcases strong performance, particularly in reasoning and coding tasks.
